Field Visit on Making of Terracotta Jewellery: An Innovative Teaching Method

The Department of Commerce organized a field visit on “Making of Terracotta Jewellery” on 14 August 2026 as part of its innovative teaching and experiential learning initiative. The programme was conducted for 40 fifth-semester B.Com students studying Elective-I Accounting and interested in entrepreneurship and innovation. The visit provided students with practical exposure to the process of creating terracotta jewellery and understanding its potential as a small-scale business venture.

During the visit, students interacted with the founder and workers of the manufacturing unit and gained insights into production processes, raw materials, cost-effective manufacturing techniques, pricing strategies, inventory management, and employment practices. The activity also enabled students to connect real-world business operations with accounting concepts such as inventory management, taxation, employee benefits, and intangible assets.

The field visit successfully enhanced students’ understanding of creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship, and the practical application of accounting knowledge. By bridging classroom concepts with real business practices, the activity served as an effective innovative teaching method and enriched the students’ experiential learning journey.
